Health & Safety

Emissions Reduction
We are continually striving to lower emissions and increase our efficiency while providing a reliable and safe energy supply to over 550,000 customers.

Safety
At Portlands Energy Centre, we operate under strict safety standards to ensure the health and safety of our employees, contractors and the local community.

Emergency Preparedness
As a responsible employer and member of the community we have developed our site emergency plan. This plan is tested, reviewed and updated yearly. The first emergency response exercise was held on January 15th 2010; the second on May 5th 2011. Lessons learned in the process of the exercise and recommendations are being implemented.

The Executive Leadership Team, Management and Employees at Portlands Energy Centre are jointly committed to being an industry leader in health, safety and environmental practices, to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace and to minimizing our impact on the natural environment.

We believe that achieving excellence in our Health, Safety and Environment practices is vital to the well being of our employees and the community in which we operate, and is essential to our business success.

Although the Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that one worker and one management representative of every Joint Health and Safety Committee must be trained in the fundamentals of health and safety and both members must be trained in workplace-specific hazards, Portlands Energy Centre requires that all Members be certified. Each one of our JHSEC members has been certified through a 4 day training course provided by the Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA).
