TransCanada and Ontario Power Generation (OPG) entered
into a partnership to develop a power plant called the Portlands Energy Centre
(PEC) in Toronto. In December 2002, the partnership began an environmental
assessment to verify the viability of developing a 550-megawatt natural
gas-fuelled power plant.
The project was initiated in response to a Government
of Ontario identified need for further development to support the energy
requirements of downtown Toronto.
